THQ Nordic's remake of the platformer has sold over two million copies as of May 2021. The Cosmic Shake comes hot on the heels of a very successful remake of SpongeBob's best-remembered interactive adventure in Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated.
Although SpongeBob has continued to appear in several Nickelodeon games in recent years and will be included in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's roster, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be the first all-new console release for the character since 2015's SpongeBob HeroPants. A new game starring Nickelodeon's yellow mascot was announced as SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake at THQ Nordic's 10-year anniversary digital showcase.
